Machine Representation and Digitization of Folk Music

民间音乐的计算机表征和数字化

Abstract:

I will talk about my work in applying machine learning to folk music, particularly Irish and Swedish traditional music. Topics include how such music is represented, how a machine can learn to imitate those representations, how engineers can evaluate those machine models, and how musicians can bring the generated music to life. Several ethical questions are highlighted, such as data usage, fairness, and the role of the engineer in promoting responsible innovation.

Bob L. T. Sturm将讲述他将机器学习应用至民间音乐(尤其是爱尔兰和瑞典的传统音乐)所做的工作，内容主要涉及以下几方面：如何表征这样的音乐，如何让计算机学习这些表征，如何评估这些模型，以及如何将这些生成的音乐生动地表现出来。此外，本次讲演也会着重讨论一些伦理问题，例如数据应如何使用，进行这类工作的公正合理性，以及如何进行负责任的创新工作。

Biography:

I am the PI of the MUSAiC project (ERC-2019-COG No. 864189). Before becoming an Associate Professor of Computer Science at KTH in 2018, I was a Lecturer in Digital Media at the Centre for Digital Music, School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Queen Mary University of London. Before joining QMUL in 2014, I was a lektor at the Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology, Aalborg University Copenhagen. Before joining AAU in 2010, I was a postdoc at "Lutheries - Acoustique - Musique" (LAM) de l'Institut Jean le Rond d'Alembert, Paris 6. I received my PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2009 from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

简介：Bob L. T. Sturm于2009年在加州大学圣芭芭拉分校获得电子与计算机工程博士学位，随后在Jean le Rond d’Alembert学院的Lutheries - Acoustique - Musique" (LAM)团队从事博士后工作。2010年，Bob L. T. Sturm在哥本哈根奥尔堡大学担任讲师，随后于2014年进入伦敦玛丽女王大学数字音乐中心担任讲师。2018年，Bob L. T. Sturm进入瑞典皇家理工学院担任副教授，以及MUSAiC项目负责人。
